Squawk #74 Canopy Release fail

This was an interesting one.  I was taxing back in and went to pop the canopy.  The handle moved more than normal.  Was I ever glad that I had put in the hole to allow me to release the canopy.  I was also glad I had a screw driver in my on board tool kit.

It really wasn't that bad to drill out the rivets.  When I opened it up I found the failure.

As you can see the post that came with the kit failed to hold the cable.  On closer examination you can see that the hole is off center and not very stout.

My solution was to put it in double shear.  This will be a much stronger solution and still maintain the profile.

I orientated it differently to give more throw.

Here is the latch rotated.  I also adjusted so that both latches pop at the same time.
