Cowl part 1

Cut the blank for the cowl

Had a visit from my Tech Counselor.   He just started flying his Sonex.  He was pleased with what I have done and we had some great discussions.

OK got the cowl in place and stared trying to locate the oil cooler.

A view from the front

One thing I am not sure of is how the duct is attached on the rear.  There isn't much edge distance here.  I am going to give Jab a call. I might end up building it up.

When I talked to them the said to make sure the duct is pushed down far enough.  I did that but still don't like the edge distance.  I will reinforce it.

Wiring up the Mags.  This is the shielded wire to the mag.  I spliced into the shield and then to the ground plane.  I like these little heat shrink joints.  The solder flows with the heat gun.

This is the wiring for the fuel pressure sender.  You need to hook up a 4.3 V exciter from the EIS with a resistor.  Then it goes to the pressure sender.

CHT gage.  This is located on the exhaust side of the cylinder.  You can see there is not much room.

I used my dremel and cut the fin.

Much better.  This is from the Jab website.

Another point is how the CHT probe is configured.  Here is prior

The probe is bent and located between the plug and the washer.  This is how the CHTs are calibrated for the values by Jab

It is tough to get a socket on the plugs with the CHT pickup on.  I took a socket and cut it and it works well

Here you can see it in action.

I used some nylon clamps held on w safety wire to secure the leads.

The fit on the end is not real good.  I ended up cutting quite a bit off to get it seated.  I will patch this area.  You can also see the CHT leads coming out
