I also used the laser to check to see if it was twisted. I
established a level plane by placing it on the bench. Then I moved a post to the 4 corners of the structure and shimmed the wheels on the table till the plane projected on the same points.

Used my laser level to make sure it was all straight |

Took some time checking the pass throughs that were predrilled in the skin. They were close but not quite right on. Filed the slots to fit. Used a 2x4 on top of the frame to hold the skin up and dress the pass through. This worked well. |

OOPS? I spent all of that time making sure that the frame was straight. So I screwed pieces of wood to both front and rear spars to make sure it wouldn't move. The photo assembly guide only showed this on the trailing edge. But I did both. OOPS. This did hold it well, but I should have removed them before I riveted the skin, because this covered up the forward ones. I was able to get them loose with a bit in a rachet wrench. Wasn't sure how I was going to get it of for a while. Live and learn. |

Everything lined up well so I drilled all of the holes on the bottom. Took the skin off and deburred all of the holes. Then cleaned with MEK, Buffed with Scotch bite pad and cleaned again with MEK. Shot the primer on both the top and bottom skins.

The placement of the end ribs dictates the location of the rivet line on the flange with the predrilled skins! Here you see it ended up close to the radius of the flange and not in the middle. I also nicked a rivet or two while drilling. It ended up ok but I wish I had placed the end ribs a little further aft. The location of the end ribs is Critial! See emails from ZAC and the discussion below. |
